This is an opportunity for a successful candidate to work with an Environmental Justice Community in Westchester County. The candidate will assist the City of Mount Vernon fulfill its sustainability needs.

Comrie Enterprises, LLC is the Adopt Clean Energy campaign manager for Mount Vernon and New Rochelle, NY. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Heat Smart campaign is to promote heat pump technology and heat pump installer training.

 

Qualifications:

  • New York State Resident
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental studies, sustainability, climate science, public policy, or a related field.
  • Be a member of the priority population as defined by NYSERDA.

    • Individuals with disabilities.
    • Low-income individuals whose household’s total income is below or at 60% of the State Median Income or whose household has been determined eligible for or is receiving assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or other human service benefit programs.
    • Incumbent or unemployed fossil fuel workers.
    • Previously incarcerated individuals.
    • Single parents.

 

Requirements:

  1. Passion for Climate Justice: Have a deep understanding of environmental justice issues and a commitment to addressing climate change through an equity lens.
  2. Experience in Sustainability: Previous experience or coursework in sustainability initiatives, climate action planning, or environmental advocacy.
  3. Community Engagement Skills: Ability to engage with diverse communities, including marginalized groups, and facilitate inclusive discussions around climate justice.
  4. Research and Analytical Skills: Proficiency in conducting research, analyzing data, and synthesizing information to support decision-making processes related to climate initiatives.
  5. Excellent Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex ideas to various stakeholders, including presentations and reports.
  6. Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage projects from inception to completion, including setting goals and timelines and coordinating with team members.
  7. Policy Analysis: Familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental policies and regulations, with the ability to analyze their impact on climate justice initiatives.
  8. Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, and other relevant software for data analysis, documentation, and presentation.
  9. Adaptability and Initiative: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, showing initiative and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  10. Interdisciplinary Approach: Understanding of the intersectionality between climate justice, social justice, and economic equity and the ability to incorporate these perspectives into sustainability initiatives.
  11. Networking and Relationship Building: Capacity to build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders to advance climate justice goals.
  12. Cultural Competency: Sensitivity to cultural differences and a commitment to fostering inclusive environments that honor diverse perspectives and experiences.
  13. Conflict Resolution Skills: The ability to navigate conflicts and disagreements constructively, foster dialogue, and find common ground to advance shared goals.
  14. Commitment to Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated on the latest research, trends, and best practices in climate justice and sustainability.
