Teatown Lake Reservation is a non-profit membership organization, nature preserve, and environmental education center located on a 1,000-acre preserve in New York’s Lower Hudson Valley. Its mission is to inspire our community to lifelong environmental stewardship through nature education, conservation, and advocacy. The Membership and Development Manager is a self-starter, strategic thinker, service-minded, flexible, curious, outgoing individual committed to the organization’s mission.

Position Overview:

The Membership and Development Manager is responsible for managing and advancing the membership program and works with the Director of Development on all fundraising initiatives to meet fundraising goals. This role also manages and maintains Teatown’s CRM database, DonorPerfect.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Membership

  • Manage the membership program and maintain member records in Teatown’s CRM database, DonorPerfect.
  • Cultivate relationships with current and prospective members via multiple channels.
  • Formulate and execute plans to increase, maintain, and expand Teatown’s membership.
  • Work in conjunction with the Communications/Events team to promote membership, create and solicit member feedback via survey, and generate list for lapsed member survey quarterly.
  • Work jointly with the Events Manager to create and execute bi-annual receptions for Teatown Lake Circle members.
  • Generate ideas and cooperate with other departments to establish and deliver member-only engagement activities.
  • Data entry all memberships in a timely manner. Send digital acknowledgements. Print tax-receipt letters for mailing.
  • Produce monthly renewal reminder letters and labels.
  • Track member free ticket(s) to EagleFest and PlantFest. Send confirmation emails.
  • Resolve membership and donor inquiries, requests, and concerns promptly.

Development

  • Assist in the cultivation of relationships with donors and prospects via multiple channels.
  • Participate in meetings and record minutes.
  • Manage and maintain donor records in Teatown’s CRM database, DonorPerfect.
  • Staff training and best practices for DonorPerfect, as needed.
  • Build, produce, and analyze reports. Track and report to Development Director, key metrics related to membership and fundraising performance.
  • Reconcile data entry with CFO monthly.
  • Generate mailing lists for all digital communications, postal mailings, invitations, etc.
  • Organize and generate timeline for the annual and spring appeals. Coordinate with Communications team.
  • Data entry all donations in a timely manner. Send digital acknowledgements promptly. Print tax-receipt letters for mailing. Copy, file, and/or scan back up.
  • Capital campaign duties which include recording and tracking recognition, gift/pledge data entry, acknowledgement letters.
  • Perform other tasks/duties related to membership and development.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ proficiency with non-profit CRM software, with DonorPerfect experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in membership sales, with a focus on growth and retention.
  • Knowledge of research techniques and resources in the field of philanthropy.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices of the development profession.
  • Works well with a variety of constituents — board members, volunteers, members, donors.
  • Strong follow-up and follow-through skills.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Successfully manages multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail; excellent organizational, project, and time management skills.
  • Proactive team player adept at both independent and collaborative work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel, Google Docs, DonorPerfect CRM management, and Zoom. Well-versed in general technology.

Location/Schedule: This is a full-time salaried position, Monday–Friday (35 hours per week) on­site, at Teatown Lake Reservation’s Visitor Center in Ossining, NY. Regular work hours are 9:00am–5:00pm. Some evening and weekend work required.
