Overview of Position 
The program staff works with youth in schools and communities throughout Westchester to promote healthy relationships based on equality, respect and trust. The goal is to empower youth with the knowledge to recognize signs of abuse and strategies to help themselves and their peers. 

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating middle school and high school workshops, both in classrooms and community settings, providing life-saving information on abuse, engaging students in role-playing scenarios, and offering resources for help.
  • STAR, a peer leadership program that organizes youth to take action against abuse and promote healthy, loving relationships based on equality, respect and trust.  
  • Coordinating an annual teen dating abuse symposium for hundreds of teens, educators and community activists.
  • Participating in agency-wide and community events to support organizational goals.
  • Promote safety, independence and healing for victims of domestic violence and dating abuse through hotline services, counseling, support groups, advocacy and/or information referral services.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual Spanish required.
  • Education: BA/BS/BSW in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or School Counseling and/or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience in crisis intervention, safety planning, or victim services.
  • Experience: At least Minimum of one year of experience working with youth, crisis intervention, or related fields. Experience with middle school age groups is a plus.

Skills

Strong public speaking, public relations, and organizational skills.
Ability to build rapport with diverse youth populations.
Experience in counseling and creative curriculum development.
Familiarity with domestic violence and dating abuse theory, or a willingness to learn.
Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Computer proficiency.

Additional Requirements

Flexible hours: The role requires availability for early morning workshops, evening meetings, and weekend events.
Driver's license in good standing and access to a personal vehicle for travel.
