Job Overview of Assistant Director of HR
The Assistant Director of HR will be an integral member of the HR Department and will report to the Sr. Director of HR. The Assistant Director of HR (ADHR) will have expertise in employment laws, benefits, and employee relations. The ADHR will lead the development and implementation of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives that support the Agency’s strategic plan and recruitment efforts. The ADHR assists to create a culture that is open to change and innovation, and supports collaboration, respect, and accountability. The ADHR will assist with employee relations to ensure that Andrus’ human resource policies, programs and practices are effective, equitable and promote a positive work environment founded on our core values, ethics and in accordance with Andrus’ Sanctuary Model and organizational objectives.
Essential Duties of Assistant Director of HR
- Model excellent customer service and provide excellent service to all employees, candidates, and community.
- Ensure full understanding of benefits, including eligibility and options, as well as assist with enrollment and/or troubleshooting.
- Supports the company's Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) strategies and initiatives; maintains active membership on EDIB committee.
- Evaluate the company's HR practices, procedures, benefits, strategies, and supports, ensuring fair and equitable decision making.
- Support employee relations efforts; conducting investigations; attending mediations or meetings with staff and supervisors; and assist managers with implementation and documentation in the progressive discipline process including written warnings and performance improvement plans.
- Supervisory responsibility over HR Assistant and Receptionist/Office Assistant.
- Provide training and guidance to the HR Assistant regarding all leave of absence requests according to agency policy and in compliance with FMLA, PFL and all federal/state/local leave laws.
- Provide training and guidance to the HR Assistant with the Workers’ Compensation reporting and review process.
- Supervise the Receptionist/HR Office Asst. which includes all front desk responsibilities, such as phones, mail, visitors, departmental purchasing, etc.
- Communicate personnel and/or other issues to Senior leadership as necessary.
- Represent the Agency on various internal and external committees, ensuring pertinent information is shared with agency leadership and needed updates are implemented timely.
- Represent the Agency at all personnel-related meetings or hearings.
- Take an active role in training and mentoring new and current staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or senior management.

Essential Qualifications of Assistant Director of HR
Key qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of relevant experience in an HR management role that includes performance and change management, employee relations, supervisory experience and experience implementing EDIB initiatives.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills; exemplary organization skills a must.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively with minimal supervision is essential.
- Data and Technology savvy: able to evaluate new ways to leverage technology to improve processes, engage staff, and model data to inform decision making. Ability to interpret, synthesize and present both qualitative and quantitative engagement data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent customer service skills, time management, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to access and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs.
Physical/Travel Requirements of Assistant Director of HR
- Must have ability to reach, walk, sit, climb stairs, bend, ability to lift 20lbs and
have visual acuity (with correction as needed), and auditory acuity (with correction as needed).
- Must have a driver’s license in good standing.
