JOB MISSION

YPIE College Success Advisors provide short-term solution focused persistence support for all YPIE college students (Yonkers and Jersey City) so 80% of students will attain a bachelor’s degree in six years. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & RESULTS  

  • College Transition/Enrollment Support
      • After seniors commit to colleges, collaborate with the College Access Team to support all seniors through the enrollment process, using the enrollment checklist, to remove all barriers to enrollment including but not limited to:
        • activating new school and email accounts, 
        • submitting medical forms, 
        • signing up for orientation, 
        • accepting loans and completing loan counseling and MPN (if necessary),
        • setting up a payment plan.
  • College Enrollment and Persistence
    • Provide solution focused support so 90% of rising 1st years will enroll at a four year college.
    • Provide solution focused support for all students until year 6 who data indicate are off track or at risk.
    • Provide solution focused re-enrollment support for students who have stopped out.
    • Provide solution focused support so 95% of students will re-enroll colleges where YPIE has data sharing agreements.
    • Provide application and other support to ensure students take the steps to transfer from a community college to a 4 year college.
  • Financial Aid
    • Assist currently enrolled college or not currently enrolled students in completing FAFSA/TAP/CSS applications. Assist students in identifying and completing scholarship applications.
  • Family Engagement
    • When necessary, meet with and include parents/guardians one-on-one or in groups to support students’ persistence.
  • Program Administration, Recruitment, and Collaboration
    • Manage student records and program logistics, communicating with key stakeholders to ensure seamless events and effective program implementation.
    • Recruit for and support YPIE career related events
    • Collaborate across teams to support “For All” Events
    • Recruit and engage college students in YPIE Future Leaders, a service club

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for consideration, applicants should have:

  • Experience in higher ed, counseling, social work, or related field
  • Knowledge of public and private colleges/universities, opportunity programs, and financial aid requirements
  • Ability to navigate partnerships with diverse stakeholders
  • Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours as dictated by programming needs
  • A car and willingness to travel to program site(s) 

The most competitive applicants will possess:

  • 2+ years experience providing persistence support,  or college guidance, and financial aid assistance to low income, first generation, and/or students of color
  • Masters in counseling, higher ed, or related field 
  • Spanish fluency 
  • A desire to learn and stay current in the ever changing world of postsecondary admissions and persistence

JOB DETAILS

Location(s): In-person, YPIE National Office (Yonkers, NY), with some remote work flexibility

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Calendar: 12 Month, Administrative Calendar

Salary Range: $64,000 to $72,000 depending on experience

Reporting to: Senior Director, Postsecondary Access and Success
