About Fund the People

At Fund the People, we believe that investing in nonprofit workers is one of the most powerful strategies to increase impact across civil society. We are a national organization dedicated to changing the narrative, the systems, and the practices that undermine nonprofit professionals. Since our founding in 2014, we've been at the forefront of efforts to bring visibility, respect, and resources to those who power social change: nonprofit people.

Headquartered in Beacon, NY and operating virtually with staff located nationwide, we are a collaborative and equity-centered team. Our work is rooted in a deep understanding of philanthropy, nonprofit management, and systems-change strategies. Our funding comes from private foundations, earned revenue (such as membership dues and fees), and generous individual donors. We are fiscally sponsored by Community Partners®, a trusted nonprofit fiscal sponsor that provides administrative infrastructure so we can focus on our mission.

Our mission is simple yet bold: to maximize investment in America’s nonprofit workforce. We are transforming how philanthropy, nonprofits, and the public sector understand and support nonprofit professionals. Our three-part strategy includes:

  • Making the Case through research and communications

  • Equipping for Action through tools and training

  • Building a Movement through partnerships and community

Role Overview

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Senior Program & Membership Manager to lead and grow our programmatic portfolio and to develop our emerging membership community into a vibrant force for equity and excellence in the nonprofit sector. This is an exciting opportunity to build upon a strong foundation, deepen engagement with stakeholders, and shape new opportunities for impact.

This position calls for a seasoned strategist and community-builder who thrives at the intersection of program design, membership development, and movement-building. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with the President & CEO to expand programs, launch infrastructure for membership operations, and cultivate relationships with nonprofit professionals and philanthropic leaders nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead Programs & Membership Community (40%)

  • Own and evolve our suite of programs to ensure alignment with organizational goals and stakeholder needs.

  • Design and implement educational programming, peer exchanges, and community-building experiences that increase engagement and visibility.

  • Cultivate an inclusive, vibrant community culture that reflects our values of equity, accessibility, and care.

  • Translate interest into action—inviting audiences to become members, supporters, and champions.

  • Strengthen the learning and engagement experience for our participants and partners through thoughtful program development.

You bring:

  • A passion for advancing the nonprofit workforce and the values of Fund the People.

  • A strong track record of launching and growing mission-driven programs.

  • Excellent community-building instincts and a people-centered mindset.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

2. Develop Membership Strategy, Operations & Experience (30%)

  • Build and execute a comprehensive membership strategy that turns an informal network into a structured, high-value offering.

  • Design seamless operations for recruiting, onboarding, retaining, and engaging members.

  • Develop and manage systems for member communication, tracking, and renewal.

  • Collaborate across teams to align messaging, goals, and user experience.

  • Offer exceptional service and relationship stewardship that helps members feel valued and connected.

You bring:

  • Strategic and operational acumen with the ability to implement efficiently.

  • Experience designing engagement-based models, member benefits, and payment systems.

  • Familiarity with CRM platforms, membership software, and online communities.

  • A vision for growing and sustaining a powerful, mission-aligned membership base.

3. Strengthen Team & Organizational Capacity (20%)

  • As funding allows, build a team that may include program associates, interns, volunteers, and/or contractors.

  • Model collaborative leadership and inclusive management practices.

  • Contribute to organizational strategy, decision-making, and internal culture.

  • Stay attuned to trends and adapt programs and team structure to match emerging needs and opportunities.

You bring:

  • Demonstrated experience managing teams or mentoring peers.

  • Ability to foster a healthy culture of trust, innovation, and mutual support.

  • Confidence navigating change and ambiguity in dynamic environments.

  • An eye for aligning team design with mission delivery and financial sustainability.

4. Harness Data, Storytelling & Feedback (10%)

  • Establish feedback loops to learn from members and program participants.

  • Use data to assess impact, track progress, and support continuous improvement.

  • Partner with communications and development staff to share stories that inspire investment and action.

  • Contribute to grant reports, fundraising appeals, and other materials that showcase programmatic success.

You bring:

  • Comfort using both quantitative and qualitative data to inform decisions.

  • Skill in translating impact into compelling narratives.

  • Understanding of how program insights can drive fundraising strategy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience in program development, community building, membership engagement, or nonprofit strategy.

  • Proven ability to design and manage mission-driven programs with measurable outcomes.

  • Strong project management skills with excellent attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Comfortable using technology to streamline operations and track engagement.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, both written and verbal.

  • Deep commitment to social justice, equity, and nonprofit workforce wellbeing.
