Job Description:
Manhattanville's Andrew Bodenrader Center for Academic Writing and Composition (The Writing Center) is seeking Learning Specialists to work 5 hours per week. Learning Specialists in the Writing Center assist students with writing across disciplines and at any stage in the writing process. Learning Specialists are available for both in-person and online tutoring, and work a variety of collaborative one-to-one appointments, including scheduled and drop-in appointments, as well as synchronous and asynchronous appointments. Writing Center Learning Specialists, in line with the Writing Center's mission statement, "strive to build the confidence of student writers," "help students develop as writers and learn writing skills and strategies that will help them succeed at the college level and beyond," and foster "an environment that is inclusive of all learners."
Supervisory Responsibilities: none
Duties/Responsibilities:
Learning Specialists will keep record of any and all sessions they have with tutees, attend monthly Writing Center meetings, and communicate regularly with fellow staff (including Peer Tutors and Apprentices, graduate Teaching and Tutoring Fellows, other Learning Specialists, and Academic Writing Faculty) and the Writing Center Director.
In this role, Learning Specialists are expected to:
Qualifications:
Experience working with undergraduate students who need writing support.
Education:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree or those currently pursuing a Master's degree preferred.
Or education and/or experience that is equivalent to the above.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Hours Expectation:
Five hours a week; 29 hours or less
