Position title: Children’s Activities Coordinator
Supervised and Supported by: UU Fellowship of Poughkeepsie President
Hours and Length: Part-time (6 hrs/wk, most weeks) mid-August 2025- June 2026 (renewable)
Compensation: $27/hr
Job Description:
The Children’s Activities Coordinator (CAC) provides administrative and operational support for children and families of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Poughkeepsie (UUFP). Duties generally performed on Sunday mornings, at monthly Religious Exploration Program (REP) meetings, and Supervisor meetings monthly or as needed. Remunerated presence at occasional family activities on Saturday or Sunday afternoon (as available and mutually agreed upon ahead of time) outside of weekly duties described here is also a possibility.
Description of Responsibilities:
- Be a welcoming presence and contact for families with children.
- Collect class attendance and maintain records
- Register children.
- Communicate with families during the week and create announcements for weekly Blast newsletter providing connection between UUFP and families with children. Respond to email weekly.
- Follow UUFP and Unitarian Universalist Association Safer Congregations policies with respect to self, adult volunteers and children and spaces used with children and youth.
- Work independently, in consultation and collaboration with the REP on:
- Implementing the curriculum or activities for Sunday morning that encourage fellowship & belonging, foundational qualities of faith development.
- Ensuring volunteer, material, and space readiness for each Sunday.
- Working with volunteer leaders in finding and/or purchasing supplies and instructional materials.
- Assist in recruiting and supporting Sunday morning volunteers for children’s programming.
Description of Work Hour Requirements
- Onsite Sundays
- 3 of 4 Sundays per month; 4 Sundays in a month with 5 Sundays.
- Sunday onsite hours are 9:30-12:30. Changes to this schedule can be requested of supervisor and agreed upon ahead of time.
- Prep for the day’s lesson. Greet children and families. Assist in implementing the day’s lesson. Prep for the following Sunday.

- Attend monthly meetings of the REP and assist in preparing the agenda. (approximately 1 hour)
- Meet monthly with the supervisor or as needed.(approximately 30 mins- 1 hour)
- Communicate with families and prepare weekly newsletter information (the Blast)
- Update records and obtain any necessary materials as needed. This includes work time records.
Qualifications:
- Required
- Employment experience working with children.
- Good verbal and written communications skills, including social media, Google Drive.
- Ability and desire to engage parents and children.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle low level conflict and use judgement about when to contact supervisor.
- Able to pass criminal and sex offender background checks.
- Two acceptable reference contacts.
- Attend a Safer Congregation training. (This is remunerated time.)
- Attend an Orientation/Startup training. (This is remunerated time.)

- Experience with volunteer-based organization.
- Experience in self-directed and independent work environments.
