We are seeking an engaging and curious STEM educator to join our collaborative team and support a wide range of hands-on, community-based programming. Our team provides informal STEM education to learners from preschool through high school, with a focus on reaching underserved populations. We partner with schools, libraries, and community centers to deliver high-quality, interactive learning experiences that spark curiosity and build confidence.This position does not require teacher certification and offers ample opportunities for professional growth. We’re looking for a proactive, organized, and passionate lifelong learner who is excited to make a meaningful impact through STEM education.

 

What you'll be doing

 

The responsibilities of this role can be tweaked depending on the talents of the right candidate and the  needs of our team. Having said that, it's likely that you'll be doing some of the things below, together with our Program Team:

 

  • Teach after-school STEM lessons at schools, community centers, or partner sites, primarily serving underserved youth.
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction aligned with NGSS and organizational curriculum.
  • Participate with full enthusiasm in all  training for lessons in advance of program sessions and contribute to the on-going development of lessons over time through curriculum feedback and writing.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all learners.
  • Track attendance, complete session reports, and support data collection for program evaluation.
  • Collaborate with the program team to adapt lessons to fit student needs and site logistics.
  • Be prepared to teach in the afternoons, evenings and occasional weekends on a pre-planned flex schedule that involves communication with our Program Coordinator and fellow STEM team members.
  • Assist with managing inventory of our program materials to ensure smooth program implementation
  • Record all data with accuracy and attention to detail related to STEM Programming
  • Take on assigned management and operations tasks that support The STEM Alliance’s overall operations and the STEM team’s operation filling up to 50% of your role (your non teaching time)

Requirements

First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is warm, friendly and values teamwork.  We would hope that you are looking to expand your personal and professional goals. Also significant is that you have a desire to serve others and learn how STEM education is creating a ladder of opportunity for all. Lastly, we would need you to be able to have high levels of tech skills such that you can use tech platforms to complete tasks independently and in a timely manner with some guidance. 

 

Besides that, we would expect these qualifications:

  • 1–2 years of experience teaching or facilitating youth programs in education, after-school, or community settings - in particular with middle school and/or high school students
  • Strong STEM skills with higher level college math and science classes or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated passion for STEM education and equity in learning.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) to assist with language access programs and other scholarship initiatives
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and adapt to different learning environments.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Must pass a background check and be eligible to work with youth.
  • Have weekend and evening availability to work a flex schedule to implement programs during high demand times (after school, evening and weekend times)  

 

Besides that you might:

  • Have experience with the Google Workspace platform
  • Have a car or are able to access transportation to reach partner sites across Westchester County
