Elementary Robotics Coach and Program Manager (Part-Time)

We’re seeking a passionate and organized Elementary Robotics Program Manager to serve as a coach and manager for our competitive robotics teams for elementary students and middle school students. Our teams have a strong focus on equity, access, and student-centered learning. Using the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) platform, this role combines strategic program leadership, team coaching, intern mentorship and overall collaboration to support success for all team members and staff.

Our Coach and Program Manager will ensure high-quality robotics experiences for youth while guiding teams toward competitive success. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of STEM education, coaching, project management and community-based programming.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

As a member of the Programs Team, you’ll oversee the robotics program from recruitment and team selection to competition and closeout.

  • Maintaining all require registration details with the FIRST league including timely registration for competitions
  • Maintain registration, attendance and parent relationship record
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Communications, Resource Development, and STEM Education) to support program promotion, recruitment, and fundraising/sponsorship efforts.
  • Lead program planning and implement a vision for a high-impact elementary robotics program grounded in equity and inclusion.
  • Run tryouts and select student team members based on a structured rubric (up to 10 per team).
  • Facilitate and supervise twice-weekly team practices, creating an inclusive environment for students to build robotics, coding, and teamwork skills.
  • Serve as lead coach at all registered competitions; manage event logistics and represent the program externally.
  • Supervise and mentor interns or co-facilitators, completing mid- and end-season performance reviews.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding team expectations, schedules, behavior, and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with FIRST LEGO League regulations including registration, background checks, and competition guidelines.
  • Maintain organized records of student attendance, competition outcomes, equipment use, and family engagement.
  • Manage packing, materials, and program close-out responsibilities at season's end.

Work Environment

  • This is a seasonal, part-time role that averages 6–12 hours/week, with higher demands during competition season.
  • Flexible scheduling required with an emphasis on afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Office based in downtown Mamaroneck, walkable from Metro-North, shops, and cafes.

Qualifications

  • 2-3  years of experience in education, youth programs, or STEM-related fields.
  • Passion for STEM and familiarity with project-based learning or robotics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially with families and diverse teams.
  • Must pass a background check and meet eligibility requirements to work with youth.
  • Availability for afternoon/evening sessions and occasional weekend competitions.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in education, computer science, engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with robotics (Spike Prime or other platforms) and/or a willingness to take a required robotics academy training class
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
  • High levels of experience with Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and/or learning platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising people and or projects with success
