The Sharing Shelf combats clothing insecurity by providing children and teens in need with clothing and basic essentials, empowering them to learn, grow and reach their full potential.
We are adding a member to our Volunteer Engagement Team.
The Volunteer Manager plays a key role in managing and supporting The Sharing Shelf’s robust volunteer program. This individual oversees day-to-day volunteer engagement, onboarding, supervision, and progression, ensuring all volunteers have a meaningful, productive, and positive experience. The role also supports our seasonal Backpack Program, group and corporate volunteer events, and special programs involving interns and vocational training groups.
Responsibilities
- Train and onboard all new individual volunteers for daily activities and special events, ensuring a clear understanding of The Sharing Shelf’s standards, safety protocols, and procedures.
- Supervise volunteers during regular shifts and special events, providing real-time support, resolving issues, and maintaining workflow and quality control.
- Plan and manage volunteer projects in collaboration with the volunteer team and program staff to align with organizational priorities and timelines.
- Coordinate with staff to identify daily and upcoming volunteer needs and strategically match individuals to tasks that suit their skills and interests.
- Strengthen volunteer engagement by recognizing individual contributions, offering appropriate challenges, and supporting volunteer growth and progression.
- Lead weekend volunteer groups, ensuring all logistics, setup, supervision, and wrap-up tasks are well-managed.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that fosters connection, appreciation, and a strong sense of purpose among all volunteers.

Qualifications
- Experience coordinating and leading groups, volunteers or community programming
- Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently on projects as well as be a team player
- Experience/understanding of clothing styles and sizes
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adjust to changing priorities
- Comfortable supervising a range of individuals, including teens, adults, and individuals with special needs
- Enthusiasm for The Sharing Shelf’s mission and a welcoming, can-do attitude
- Skilled in Google sheets and Google docs and Microsoft Office.
Work Hours
Part time position (25 hours per week) that include some Saturday (from September through May) with occasional evening hours (flexible)
