Job Description:

 

The Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) Department at Manhattanville University seeks a dynamic and empathetic Mental Health Counselor to serve in a dual-role capacity. This full-time position will dedicate approximately 50% of time to providing direct clinical services and approximately 50% to campus-wide health promotion initiatives, including educational programs, outreach, and student training (dependent upon the needs of the institution).

 

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience providing culturally responsive care and supporting the mental health needs of students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students.

 

This position is ideal for a counselor who is passionate about equitable access to mental health care, wellness education, and community empowerment.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Clinical Services (50%)

 

• Provide short-term individual and group counseling to a diverse student population.

• Conduct clinical assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide case management as needed.

• Provide crisis intervention services during office hours and participate in the after-hours on-call rotation.

• Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records in accordance with SHAC policies and professional standards.

• Collaborate with other SHAC staff and campus partners to support students in distress and facilitate referrals to appropriate services.

 

Health Promotion & Outreach (50%)

 

• Develop and deliver workshops, trainings, and events for students, peer educators, faculty, and staff on various wellness related topics such as stress management, mindfulness, mental health awareness, and self-care.

• Collaborate with student organizations, residence life, athletics, and other departments to promote a culture of well-being.

• Serve as a resource and consultant for student leaders and campus partners seeking to promote mental health on campus.

• Help lead peer support, prevention, and wellness education initiatives, including BIPOC-focused programming and events.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

 

• Demonstrated experience providing culturally responsive care and supporting the mental health needs of students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and group facilitation skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience providing direct clinical counseling services, preferably in a college or university setting.

• Experience with brief/solution-focused therapy models.

• Experience in planning and implementing wellness programs and outreach activities.

• Bilingual or multilingual capabilities are a plus.

 

Education:

 

• Master's degree or Doctoral degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a related mental health field.

• Current licensure or license-eligibility in New York State (e.g., LMHC, LCSW, LMSW, or Psychologist).

 

Physical Requirements:

 

• This position is primarily on-site and may include occasional evening and weekend hours for outreach events.

• Office located in a welcoming, student-centered counseling and health services environment.

 

Hours Expectation:

 

• Full-time, 35 hours per week, 10 months per year (off in June and July)

• Participation in crisis-on-call rotation

• Occasional night, weekend requirement (rarely)
