Position Overview
We are seeking a mission-aligned and experienced leader to oversee our growing portfolio of volunteer engagement initiatives. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will be responsible for the strategic direction, execution, and evaluation of all volunteer, internship, in-kind, and seasonal drive programs. This individual will also supervise the Volunteer Coordinator, ensuring operational excellence and alignment with organizational goals.
Location: Mount Kisco, Ossining, and Yonkers, NY (Hybrid with local travel required)
This is a high-visibility role requiring a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on implementation. The ideal candidate is a collaborative manager who understands how to mobilize people, design effective systems, and partner across departments to deliver impactful programs that support immigrant families.
Regular weekday office hours are required, along with evening and weekend availability to support key programs and events.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Engagement & Oversight
- Supervise and support the Volunteer Coordinator, providing guidance, mentorship, and accountability
- Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer program strategy.
- Recruit, screen, and interview volunteers, assessing their skills and fit for the organization across Neighbors Link's three sites.
- Design and deliver volunteer orientation and training programs to prepare volunteers for their roles and responsibilities.
- Monitor volunteer performance, provide feedback and support, and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours and activities in Salesforce, and utilize this data for reporting and program improvement.
- Design and implement volunteer recognition and appreciation programs and communications to foster engagement and retention.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify volunteer needs and opportunities across the organization.
- Develop communication strategies to keep volunteers engaged and appreciated
- Serve as a key liaison to community organizations, faith groups, and corporate partners interested in volunteer or in-kind engagement
- Partner with the Friends of Neighbors Link and the Development Team on volunteer-led fundraising initiatives and special events
- Support program expansion efforts by building volunteer infrastructure in new locations
Internships, In-Kind Giving & Community Drives
- Lead seasonal community initiatives such as the Thanksgiving and Holiday Gift Drives
- Manage internship programs (college and high school), including outreach, onboarding, and evaluation
- Develop systems to manage in-kind donations, including intake, tracking, and distribution
- Respond to requests for community service hour documentation and field inquiries from local partners
Mission-Driven Leadership
- Embed Neighbors Link’s values of inclusivity, empowerment, and collaboration into all aspects of volunteer and community engagement
- Inspire volunteers and interns to see themselves as long-term supporters and ambassadors of the organization
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to Neighbors Link’s mission and immigrant justice
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3-5 years of relevant nonprofit experience, including at least 1–2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and stakeholder relationships
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to build rapport, establish trust, and effectively interact with diverse groups of people.
- Experience working in volunteer management or program coordination.
- Strong organizational, leadership and time management skills.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office; Salesforce or CRM experience preferred
- Spanish language proficiency preferred.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and to travel regularly between our Mount Kisco, Ossining, and Yonkers centers.
