Job Description:
The adjunct will teach the lab portion of BIO2072: Microbiology for Health Sciences. The course is described as the following: This is an introductory course to study the morphology and physiology of bacteria and other microbes for nursing students and other health professionals. We emphasize the history of the microbes and focus in different aspects of the prokaryotes such as structure and physiology of the bacteria. The function of the different antibiotics against the bacteria will be discussed. Other microorganisms such as viruses, fungi, protozoa and helminth will also be reviewed briefly. The basic introduction of the immunology will be introduced. Laboratory exercises will afford students the opportunity to develop skills in various practices designed to study the morphology, physiology and practical value of nonpathogenic microorganisms, including sterile technique. This course is not intended for biology majors and will not complete major or minor requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Teach one (or two) lab portions of BIO2072
• Laboratories run 2 hours and 45 minutes each
• Days and times of lecture are Mondays 1:40-4:25p and Wednesdays 1:40p-4:25p
• Section(s) of Microbiology taught will be decided by the adjunct in coordination with the Division chair
• Use Brightspace as a digital learning platform for course materials and grading
• Hold 3 office hours per week

Qualifications:
Education: M.S., Ph.D., post-docs, or experienced academicians with a strong background in a related discipline (e.g.- microbiology)
Experience: Experience with teaching a similar course is preferred
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing and walking around a laboratory.
Must be able to lift up to 5 pounds at times.
Salary:
The annual salary for this position is dependent upon the adjunct union contract (3 credit courses with a non-terminal degree are $3,375; With a terminal degree $3,675).
Hours Expectation:
One (or two) laboratories per week (2 hours and 45 minutes each) as well as 3 office hours per week.
Days and Times: Mondays 1:40-4:25p and/ or Wednesdays 1:40p-4:25p
