The Ossining Center of Hope seeks a Full Time Maintenance Worker responsible for assisting the Facilities Manager in the repair and upkeep of the buildings, grounds and equipment at our interfaith retreat center. Positions offers great benefits and lunch provided on-site.

The Center offers programs in spirituality and contemplative practices, social justice, environmental protection, the arts, and wellness of body, mind, and spirit. Located 35 miles from New York City, the Center is situated on 61 wooded acres on the eastern bank of the Hudson River. The Ossining Center of Hope is a sponsored ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Hope. Employees are expected to perform required tasks in a manner that is consistent with sound ecology, responsible stewardship and the philosophy and goals of the Dominican Sisters of Hope. Must be able to work unsupervised, complete job-related paperwork, be self-motivated, prompt and reliable. Must have flexibility to respond to emergency issues in a timely manner. Physical requirements are commensurate with the duties of the position, including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., push, pull, climb and stand for long periods of time.

Must have drivers license and good driving record.  Work schedule is Sundays through Thursdays.  Must have commute of twenty miles or less. Must have working ability to speak and understand English. 

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • General lawn maintenance including mowing and trimming of grounds & shrubs, and maintaining the paths.
  • Work with the Environmental Project in development and execution of new landscaping, gardens and outside projects.
  • Routine maintenance and minor repairs of outdoor power equipment.
  • Seasonal duties including snow removal, leaf removal, mulching and raking.
  • Set- up, break down, clean up for meetings, workshops, retreats, etc.
  • Pick up and removal of garbage, debris and trash.
  • Maintaining the pool, bathhouses and picnic area.
  • Painting projects, as required.
  • Repair broken furniture, doors, windows, fixtures, gates, etc.
  • Moving furniture when needed.
  • Stripping, washing and waxing floors as well as shampooing carpets.
  • Lifting and carrying heavy supplies and climbing ladders.
