Job Title: Part-Time Bookkeeper

About Us
The Westchester Jewish Council is a central coordinating organization for the Jewish community, located in White Plains with 7 employees and approximately $1,000,000 in annual revenue. We are looking for a reliable part-time Bookkeeper to manage our day-to-day financial operations and ensure our financial records remain accurate and up to date and to work closely with our Treasurer, CEO and accountant.
Position Overview
As our sole Bookkeeper, you will take ownership of our daily financial transactions, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly reconciliations.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Transactions: Record and categorize all day-to-day financial transactions, expenses, and revenues.
- Accounts Receivable: Generate client invoices, track incoming payments, and follow up gently on overdue accounts.
- Accounts Payable: Review vendor invoices, code expenses accurately, and schedule payments for CEO approval.
- Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and payment processors weekly and at month-end.
- Payroll & Compliance: Process semimonthly payroll for our team of 7 employees (using PayChex) and track 1099 vendor data with Accountant.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare basic monthly income statement using Sage/Peachtree.
- Tax Prep Collaboration: Maintain a clean, audit-ready general ledger to hand off to our external CPA for annual tax filings and audit.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Bookkeeping experience, ideally supporting a small business
- Software Proficiency: Ability to use and learn accounting software (currently Sage/Peachtree) and payroll platforms (currently PayChex)
- Technical Savvy: Comfort with using and/or learning MS Office Suite, MS Outlook, Sage/Peachtree and other electronic programs as needed.
- Attention to Detail: High accuracy in data entry
- Communication: Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with colleagues, board members, vendors, members and donors.
- Trustworthiness: Ability to handle confidential company financial data with total discretion.
- Collaboration: Ability to work with our full team of professionals and volunteers in pursuit of our mission.
Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on experience.
- Schedule: Flexible 12 or so hours per week in office, ideally split across a few days to keep transactions current.
