WCHC operates as a 501(c)(3), Article 28 Licensed Diagnostic and Treatment Center, with nine facilities primarily serving communities in Mount Vernon, Yonkers, Greenburgh, and White Plains. Our work is rooted in a simple goal: bringing care closer to the people who need it and reducing the barriers that can prevent individuals and families from receiving care. WCHC provides high-quality, affordable primary and preventive care, specialty care, dental care, mental health services, and support services to improve the health and lives of individuals and families throughout Westchester County. WCHC’s mission is to improve the lives of our community members by providing high-quality, comprehensive, and affordable primary and preventative health care.
New York State AmeriCorps Member Position Description:
The position will expand WCHC's health education and community outreach efforts through in-person and digital engagement. The member will help provide accessible health information, address health misinformation, increase awareness of preventive care and available health center services, and strengthen WCHC's connection with the communities it serves.
Community Need: Community members need access to reliable, easy-to-understand health information and clear information about where and how to access care. Health misinformation, particularly surrounding vaccines and preventive care, can create additional barriers to informed healthcare decisions. WCHC also serves a diverse population that requires multiple approaches to outreach. Additional support is needed to provide health education at community events while extending that information through social media and other digital channels used by community members.
Member Position Summary: The Health Outreach & Digital Communications Coordinator will support WCHC's health education and community outreach efforts through digital content creation and direct fac-to-face community engagement. The member will create health-focused social media content, photos, videos, and graphics; participate in community events and health fairs; provide health education; and share information about WCHC services and programs. Through these activities, the member will help expand the reach of reliable health information and connect community members with available healthcare resources.
Necessary Training or Training Plan to be implemented prior to Member Placement: The member will participate in CHCANYS AmeriCorps Pre-Service Orientation and WCHC outreach and marketing departmental orientation. WCHC training will include health center programs and services, community outreach procedures, HIPAA and patient privacy, photography and patient consent, social media policies, brand standards, and approved health education and communications procedures. Member Impact: The member will gain hands-on experience in community health outreach, health education, digital communications, and nonprofit healthcare. Through direct community engagement and digital content development, the member will strengthen skills in public communication, social media, health messaging, content creation, community engagement, and working with diverse populations. Our placement will provide meaningful professional experience for individuals interested in public health, communications, healthcare, community outreach, or nonprofit service.
Essential Functions of Position: Create, schedule, and publish approved health education and community outreach content across WCHC's social media platforms. Create photos, short-form videos, Reels, Stories, graphics, and other digital content related to health education, preventive care, WCHC services, programs, and community activities to support engagement. Participate in community events, health fairs, and outreach activities, engage individuals and families, and help connect interested community members with appropriate WCHC services and resources. Capture approved photos and videos at community events and provide real-time digital coverage to extend the reach of outreach activities. Monitor comments, messages, social engagement, and inquires appropriately among interested community members to stay connected to WCHC health information, programs, services, and events through its digital channels.
